A 17-year old Tembisa man was arrested after being found in possession of a rhino carcass and its horn.
Rhinoceros poaching in Southern Africa is the illegal act of slaughtering rhinoceros in the Southern African countries of Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, and South Africa. Sfiso Chiango, the teenage poacher in custody, was found to have been in contravention of the National Environmental Management: Biodiversity Act (NEMBA) of 2004 after he hunted and consumed the rhino by himself.
"I honestly saw a rhino and I couldn't resist the opportunity of eating a meaty animal as big as a rhino pass by. I saw a chance and I took it and that makes a winner," said Chiango.
A case of illegal wildlife poaching has been opened at the Ringaan Police Station in Malamulele and, the teen is scheduled to appear for a bail hearing on Tuesday, 4 April.
