An African scientist commonly known as sangoma Ngoato Malepe in his home village of Lebowakgomo has been arrested in connection in with a wire-fraud scheme.
Ngoato had been using an unknown technique for 6 years before being spotted as the perpetrator in one of the largest scams involving African tech. A major bank alerted cops about large sums of money that were coming into their facilities 3 months ago. The IT department claims no account numbers were in the statements and the only words that appeared were "Brain Malepe." It was stated that Ngoato would withdraw the funds simultaneously at ATMs in different locations, making it harder to trace him. The bank then seeked the assistence of an intelligence agent with more than 4 decades of experience in bank transfers. He worked day and night for 2 weeks before eventually giving up.
A head office manager who also practised as an African scientist offered to help catch the thief that was putting the security of the bank at risk. A goat, which acts like data bundles was purchased by the bank to connect to ancestors and Paul Ranoto, the manager was soon able to help aid the detectives and thus led to Malepe's capture.
Ranoto was promoted to Head of African Cases, a position created specially for him.
Is it fair to detain the sangoma for his money? Share your thoughts in the comments.
