I might have performed badly in science but I still know that Photosynthesis is the ability to do work. I'm also not a philologist but I do know it's wrong to disrespect the hand that feeds you. By this I'm referring to the current situation at the Amazon rain-forest. Reports suggest it has been on fire for 3 straight weeks and I only found out about this an hour ago!
NASA uploaded images to its website that in fact proves that the smoke can be seen from space. Forest fires damage and at times cause irreparable damage to the earth surface, they also lead to many factors such as drought, deforestation and loss of life. I only came to learn of the fire as I saw that "Amazon" was trending and I decided to click out of curiosity. (I really thought it had something to do with Jeff Bezos or his company) I was disappointed upon learning that one of the world's most precious places that produces 20% of the world's oxygen and is also home to many animals and endangered species is dying and no one is doing anything.
#PrayforAmazonia I am so fucking mad and scared, I remember learning about the amazon forest as a kid and now its dying. Where is the media coverage for this?? Where are the billionaires donating money to help??? The Amazon forest produces 20% of our oxygen. Our world is dying. pic.twitter.com/dhklzTtKGZ
Some of the most popular tweets online are criticising President Jair Bolsonaro for not taking action. Scientists from Brazil's National Space Research Institute (INPE) say the Amazon has suffered losses at an accelerated rate since Mr Bolsonaro took office in January. The president responded by saying the data "doesn't relate to the reality" and accused them of smearing the country's reputation abroad.
The president's denial of the data which the Institute says is 95% accurate, is something that is being picked up by social media users.
In a tweet that's been liked more than 10,000 times Twitter user Bea says: "Jair Bolsonaro is chipping through the Amazon. People are not talking about it... our greatest natural heritage is being destroyed! We need to wake up and see the reality!"
